The Alamodome in San Antonio was the setting for DCI's Southwestern Championship. This was the first event of the summer where all of the World Class drum corps competed together, and it was FJM client corps the Blue Devils who took top honors and continued their unbeaten streak in 2009.
Here's how the FJM client corps who wear Cesario uniforms fared:
Blue Devils (1st Place - 91.40) set the pace for all other corps by sweeping all captions en route to the title. BD's "1930" show is thrilling fans around the country with it's powerful playing and incredible visual program including folding chairs which create great dimensionality. The Devils have clearly established themselves as "the corps to beat" at this point.
A corps that's looking to be the one to hand Blue Devils it's first set back this summer, is The Cavaliers (2nd Place - 89.75). Cavies show "The Great Divide" is truly a unique presentation that perfectly reflects the adventure of climbing through the largest canyon imaginable. The Alamodome was a great setting for the echo effects from this long storied corps. Can "The Green Machine" catch BD? Stay tuned!
Carolina Crown (4th Place - 89.15) continues their challenge for the top spot as well with their 2009 program "The Grass is Always Greener". Highlighting their fantastic playing ability, Crown placed 2nd in GE Music, and 1st in Music Ensemble. The use of the varied colors of green in the show (from drums, to guard uniforms, to corps accessories) is very pleasing to the eye, and really creates a different look on the field.
2008 DCI Champion Phantom Regiment (8th Place - 84.25) performed their 2009 production of "The Red Violin" to the delight of the Alamodome crowd. While Phantom continues to refine their visual program, the corps reinforced their reputation as one of the best playing corps around with their 4th place in Percussion and 5th overall in Music.
Boston Crusaders (9th Place - 84.20) has been on a roll, and their HOT performance in San Antonio confirmed that they are going to be a serious threat come August in Indy. Best captions for the evening were 7th in GE Visual and Visual Ensemble.
The Glassmen (10th Place - 82.20) have been a model of consistency this season, and as such, they have been consistently moving up the ranks. G-Men placed 9th in GE Visual, Visual Performance and Percussion.
Blue Knights (11th Place - 81.80) are performing at a very high level, and placing 10th in Visual overall and Percussion placed them solidly (2.2 points) ahead of 12th place.
Colts (13th Place - 79.10) just missed the top 12 by .5 and placed 12th in GE Visual, Visual Ensemble, Colorguard and Music Ensemble. Crossmen (15th Place - 76.30) placed 13th in GE Music while Spirit (17th place - 75.10) placed 15th in Music overall. Rounding out the competition was Pioneer (20th Place - 69.80) and Cascades (21st Place - 68.10).
Overall, FJM also was a big winner at this World Class competition with 12 of the 21 corps wearing Cesario uniforms! Check back in after Atlanta for another update.
